In Bologna, GIGAGREEN coordinator Silvia Bodoardo presented the project as a use case for BATT-BRIDGE, the new EU action that connects battery research, industry, policy and skills.

On 8 October 2026, Silvia Bodoardo (Politecnico di Torino), coordinator of GIGAGREEN, spoke at Battery Day, part of E-Tech Europe in Bologna. Her talk, From research to impact: BATT-BRIDGE and the skills Europe needs for batteries, addressed a recurring bottleneck in the European value chain: the gap between a strong scientific result and an industrial investment decision.

“Europe produces excellent battery research, but it must also make the resulting knowledge comparable, transferable and useful for industrial decisions,” Bodoardo said.

GIGAGREEN as a concrete use case

GIGAGREEN (2022–2026), funded by Horizon Europe and coordinated by Politecnico di Torino, applies a design-for-manufacturing approach to move green cell manufacturing from TRL 3–4 towards TRL 5–6. It follows two routes: a water-based, NMP-free wet process, now at TRL 6, and a dry process at TRL 4.

The project targets 10% higher productivity, 25% lower energy use and carbon footprint, 20% lower costs and zero VOC emissions. Turning these results into industrial uptake requires a full evidence package: process windows, automation and in-line quality control, digital-twin data, LCA and TEA, and skills and standards. BATT-BRIDGE can make this evidence visible, comparable and reusable across projects and industry.

Bodoardo closed with three priorities: make evidence comparable, bring manufacturing constraints into research earlier, and grow skills and community.
