Advancing Material Recovery in GIGAGREEN: Progress Toward High Recycling Efficiency

cathode-recovered-gigagreen

As part of the GIGAGREEN project’s efforts to develop sustainable and efficient recycling solutions for GIGAGREEN cells, we are progressing toward Milestone 6, which targets an overall material recovery rate of approximately 85%.

Based on the developed recycling process concept and initial experimental activities, the approach has demonstrated strong potential for high recovery performance. At the laboratory scale, the process has demonstrated the feasibility of recovering individual materials via the proposed treatment routes, confirming the technical viability of the key process steps.

By integrating these recovery steps, the process is expected to achieve an overall recovery efficiency of close to 85%, as supported by theoretical evaluation and preliminary findings, thereby highlighting its alignment with circular economy goals.

Further work is required to consolidate these results through repeated full-cell recycling trials, which will enable precise quantification of recovery efficiencies under representative conditions and full validation of the process at scale.

Despite these ongoing steps, the current results provide a strong foundation and set the stage for the next phase of validation and scale-up within the GIGAGREEN project.
